The week of Oct. 12 through Oct. 17 will be the last Amnesty Week for this year at the Tamaqua Public Library. Patrons with overdue books or other items will have the opportunity to return those items without any late fees.
The library will sponsor a special presentation on 19th century funeral and mourning customs on Oct. 22. The presentation will be offered by Bob Vybrenner from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Registration is appreciated and may be made by calling 570-668-4660 or by stopping in at the library.A Books to Broadway show, benefiting the library, will be held at 4 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Tamaqua Community Art Center. The event will be presented by members of the Schuylkill County Chorus, who will perform tunes from Broadway plays that are based on books.The art center is located at 125 Pine St. The library is located at 30 S. Railroad St. For more information, call 570-668-1192.Owl Creek hayridesThe Owl Creek Reservoir Commission's Fall foliage event is scheduled for the weekend of Oct. 17 and 18. Hayrides will be available both days, featuring a 2.2.-mile trip around the reservoir.There will also be face painting, pumpkin decorating and roasting marshmallows over a campfire.Saturday's hours will be from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will include a "Spooktacular" after dusk. Sunday times will be from noon to 5 p.m.Rain dates will be Oct. 24 and 25.Car showThe Tamaqua Street Machine Association will sponsor an antique and classic car show this Sunday as part of the Tamaqua Heritage Day Festival. The show will be held on South Railroad Street and prizes will be awarded.The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.Trick or treatTamaqua Mayor Chris Morrison has set the borough's Trick or Treat Night as Oct. 31. Hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m.Residents willing to treat the ghouls, goblins, princesses and superheroes are reminded to light up their property with porch and/or exterior lights.Zion LewistownPastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley.
