Fiber guild hosts fair Saturday

The Mahoning Valley Fiber Guild will host a fiber fair on Saturday at the Big Creek Grange on Grange Road in Lehighton. The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.

"It's just a hop, skip and a jump off the turnpike," spokesperson Kathy Augustine said.Augustine said the guild is made up of artisans that work with fibers, such as wool and alpaca. The fair is a way to focus on the skills, animals and fiber products. This is the third year for the fair. The day will be filled with a variety of demonstrations, products from vendors and animals to get close to. Among the demonstrations are sheepshearing, quilting, spinning wool and bobbins. In addition to sheep, there will also be alpacas, an angora rabbit, and more. Augustine said that because the exhibits are small, children will be able to get a good look at the animals and pet some, too.Artisans and vendors will be on hand with everything from raw wool and spun yarn to pottery and clothing products.Admission is free, but donations are welcome, Augustine said.Anyone interested in becoming a member of the guild can pick-up information at the fair.
