The 16th annual Carbon County Fair was held in August along Little Gap Road in Palmerton. Once again, the Carbon County Livestock Club members and their parents were busy getting ready for the week of hard work, rewards and fun.
This year's winners of the Theme Contest in the large animal competition were first place going to Andy and Jesse Fogel, second to sisters Chelsea Eckhart and Alyssa Myers and third to Collin and Kyle Troxell. Winners of the Theme Contest in the small animal competition were first place Karissa Costenbader and second to Shannon Beltz. Winners of the Good Housekeeping Contest were first to Chelsea Eckhart and Alyssa Myers, second to Cody and Gabe Fronheiser and third to Emma Gaston.The Champion Showman of each species competed in the Supreme Showman Contest. The contestants showed animals of four different species and were judged on his or her ability with each animal, for fairness, the animals shown were not the participants' own.The 2015 Supreme Showman was Mercy Melo followed by Ryanne Hoffman in second and Brittany Fronheiser winning third. The Supreme Showman banner is sponsored by the Wentz family in memory of Lester Wentz Jr., who passed away last year. A big supporter of the 4-H program and Carbon County 4-H Livestock Club, Wentz loved the showmanship aspect of the program and believed that hard work always pays off. The family also presents a cash award to all Master Showmanship contestants.This year the livestock club had 21 goats, 20 swine, 7 lambs, 20 dairy beef and 4 steers for sale at the auction.
