Crusaders run away from Bulldogs

The term "Air Jordan" typically refers to the greatest basketball player of all time's nickname.

However, when speaking about the passing attack of Notre Dame of Green Pond, senior quarterback Tre Jordan displays his talent passing the ball with relative ease, as he once again led the Crusaders to a Colonial League win, 36-21 over the hard-nosed Northern Lehigh squad. The division one prospect repeatedly maintained drives to keep his team ahead throughout a majority of the contest, spearheading an effective offense to remain perfect at 4-0 on the season. After the two teams battled to a 15-all tie at the intermission, the winners scored on their next three possessions of the second half, to build an insurmountable lead and hold out for the win."We knew that (Northern Lehigh) were going to come out tough against us," Notre Dame head coach Chuck Muller said afterward. "I thought we came out flat, and that's not a normal thing for us. So that's a credit to those guys because they were physical, they were ready. At halftime, though, we challenged the kids and we answered the bell and they stepped it up in the second."After stalling a Bulldog drive to open the third frame, Notre Dame put together a 72-yard drive that ended with Jordan racing in from the two for a 21-15 edge. Northern Lehigh was forced to punt and a perfectly-fielded punt ended up giving the Crusaders the ball at their own three yard line. The ensuing drive went 97-yards and spanned 16 plays, before Jordan connected with Aaron Weller for a seven-yard strike, and a Jordan two-point conversion put the dagger in the 'Dawgs' hopes, as that made it 29-15 with 9:24 left."Give them credit, because they had that 97-yard drive," Northern Lehigh head coach Joe Tout commented. "That's partly on us for not getting them off the field, but that was the big momentum swing in the game, I thought."Making matters worse, the locals were unable to generate anything on their next possession, and that yielded another crusade resulting in another touchdown, as Jalen Simpson went in from the one for a 36-15 swell with 2:42 remaining on the game clock.Northern Lehigh didn't quit, though, as they turned right around and scored on a nine-play, 72-yard scoring drive, when Chad Cederberg maneuvered in from the seven."We take a lot of positives away from this game, because the kids' effort was great," Tout related. "I think we have some games coming up that we can potentially win and the effort tonight was there, so I'm proud of the effort."TRE-MENDOUS. ... Jordan's effort resulted in some nice statistics, as he completed 15-21 passes for 218 yards, two passing TDs, and a pair of rushing scores. Rumor has it the 6-1, 195-pound signal-caller is possibly heading to Lafayette after graduation.WALKING THE TIGHTROPE. ... The Bulldogs' second score of the night was executed perfectly, as CJ Young finessed a spiral over defenders into the hands of Chad Cederberg, who needed to stay in bounds along the sideline twice after contact from would-be tacklers, to eventually hit pay dirt.GOOD RECEPTION. ... Notre Dame's Tre Jordan spread the ball out effectively, as he completed passes to six different receivers in his troop. Leading the way was senior Nick Basenese with four catches, while Aaron Weller scored on both of his receptions (56 yards and seven yards).TWO-MAN SHOW. ... Northern Lehigh's dynamic duo of Chad Cederberg and CJ Young accounted for a majority of their team's highlights throughout the night. Both players rushed for 90+ yards, scored all three of their team's TDs, and a pair of two-point conversions.
