Band festival
The 19th annual Land of the Running Water Marching Band Adjudication, hosted by the Tamaqua Area Raider Marching Band, will be held Oct. 3, at the Tamaqua High School Sports Stadium. This year's event will feature seven participating high school marching bands, hailing from Bangor, Exeter Township, Mahanoy Area, Minersville, Pottsville Area, Southern Lehigh and Wilson high schools.Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the competition begins at 7 p.m.Facebook workshopThe Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce and the Tamaqua Community Art Center have joined forces to present a workshop on using Facebook to expand an audience for your business, etc.The session will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the art center. Admission is free for chamber members and art center volunteers, with a small fee for all others. Topics include creating and designing a Facebook page, adjusting settings, customizing the page, networking and similar items.For more information, or to sign up, call 570-668-1880. Sunday school will be held at 10:15 a.m. Also on Sunday, Daisies, Brownies, Junior, Cadet and Cub Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.Next week's activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.; Thursday, Confirmation class meets at 6 p.m., junior choir rehearses at 7 p.m., senior choir meets at 7:30 p.m. World Communion Sunday will be celebrated on Oct. 4.Zion LewistownPastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.Bible study sessions are held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursdays. The annual turkey and waffle dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 3.St. John LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at this Sunday's 9:15 a.m. worship service in St. John's Lutheran Church.
