Nicole Renee Strawdinger, 35, of Nesquehoning appeared in Carbon County court on Tuesday to enter a guilty plea to retail theft. In addition to the plea she got some tough words from the president judge.
Strawdinger was arrested May 20 by Nesquehoning police for stealing two power drinks from the CVS pharmacy. When she stole the items she had her 11-year-old daughter with her.Judge Joseph J. Matika didn't like the facts of the case, telling Strawdinger, "On that day you taught your daughter to be a thief." He said Strawdinger used her daughter in the theft, her third conviction for retail theft, which makes it a felony three offense.Strawdinger said, "I'm sorry for all I have done. Everyone makes mistakes."Strawdinger admitted to a drug addiction problem, stating she spent five days in a detox program and 25 more in an inpatient rehabilitation center. But Matika noted the theft occurred after she left the rehab center.Strawdinger is currently an inmate in the Lehigh County prison awaiting resentencing on a parole/probation violation.Matika sentenced her to serve 30 days to one year in jail, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance for D&A use, render 50 hours of community service when released on parole, supply a DNA sample, pay court costs of about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
