Nesquehoning VFW Auxiliary meets
The regular monthly meeting of the VFW Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial Post 8008 was held on Sept. 13 at the post home. President Cheri Santore presided at the session.
At the VFW National Convention, held in August in Pittsburgh, a resolution was passed to open membership to eligible males to join the auxiliary. Formerly known as the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the organization will now be known as the VFW Auxiliary. Anyone interested in further information may stop by the post home for an application orcontact either Cheri Santore or Maureen Hirochek.Communication was received from Department headquarters, Commander Rick Ellis regarding the Holiday Relief Fund and the Golf Tournament for Scotland School. Department secretary-treasurer Sharon Mccollugh will resign at the end of the 2015-16 term; anyone interested in this position should contact Harrisburg for further information.Dues for 2016 are now payable; letters will be sent out regarding membership. Information on the Voice of Democracy has been given to Panther Valley High School. Cheri will contact schools for the Patriotic Pen Program, which includes grades six to eight.A report on the district meeting and the department president's visit to District 20 was given. Buddy Poppy weekend for Veterans Day will be held at Redner's Oct. 30, 31 and Nov. 1. A signup sheet is available at the Post Home.Recent donations were made to the Erie march for Diabetes, Department Cancer Program, all Pa. Veterans facilities and hospitals, National Home health and happiness fund, Operation Uplink, MAP, Unmet Needs, National Veterans Services, the Military Services Program, Holiday Relief Fund, National President's Visit and the Department President's Special Project. A lottery ticket basket will also be donated for a tricky tray event at the East Stroudsburg Post on Oct. 3; proceeds will benefit both the Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen Programs.The next meeting will be held Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. The November meeting date has beenchanged to Nov. 1; the County Veterans Day Parade will be held on the usual Sunday meeting date. A tentative date of Dec. 15 has been set for the annual Christmas Party; more information will be available at the October meeting.
