Man admits pointing knife at students at bus stop

A Carbon County man admitted pointing a knife and threatening students at a Panther Valley School District bus stop.

Frederick Joseph Baker, 28, of Jim Thorpe, and formerly of Lansford, pleaded guilty to one count of terroristic threats on Tuesday before Judge Joseph J. Matika.Baker was charged by Lansford police for an incident on Nov. 27, 2013, along Cortright Street. He pulled out a pocket knife, displayed the blade and pointed at two female juveniles and threatened to use it.The incident was reported by the crossing guard at the location to school officials who immediately called police.Baker is an inmate in the county prison awaiting sentencing on a charge of indecent assault, which he previously pleaded. Matika deferred sentencing and ordered a presentence investigation report be prepared by the adult probation office.Baker has been evaluated by the state sexual offenders assessment board and has been determined to be a sexual violent predator. He is going to challenge that assessment, defense attorney David W. Skutnik said.A hearing on that has not been scheduled. It will be before Judge Steven R. Serfass, who accepted the plea. Matika said that he will ask Serfass to handle the sentencing on the threats matter, stating there is no reason to have two sentencing proceedings.
