Carbon County court - theft cases

A Carbon County man admitted his part in the theft of tools and construction supplies valued at over $11,000.

Brian Scott Kieffer, 31, pleaded before Judge Joseph J. Matika on Tuesday to one count each of criminal conspiracy-burglary and receiving stolen property, both felonies.Kieffer admitted taking the tools and supplies from the property of Thomas Laux, 212 W. Patterson St., Lansford. Kieffer's brother is also charged in connection with the incident.Some of the items were sold at a yard sale, Kieffer said.Matika deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.Admits to theftMatteo Puddu, 27, of Jim Thorpe, entered guilty pleas in two pending case to one count each of receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy-retail theft.He was arrested on the receiving charge by Mahoning Township police for taking the debit card of Lisa Leiby and using them for purchases on or about March 14.The conspiracy count stems from an incident at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township on April 25 when he and Brandi Boroznoff stole merchandise from the store.Puddu is facing charges in two pending cases which his defense attorney Cynthia Yurchak said were "much more serious." They are drug charges.Matika placed him on probation on each count for a year, running concurrently, and ordered he pay restitution totaling $366.95, get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for D&A use, render 50 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee and have no contact with Leiby.
