Ten couples from around the Diocese of Allentown, each married 65 years, will lead the Diocese's 36th annual wedding anniversary celebration Sunday.
Michael and Dorothy Dalton of Allentown; Francis and Christine Dougherty of Walnutport; Alfred and Claire Fruhwirth of Orefield; Joseph and Gloria Medl of Bethlehem; George and Evelyn Starace of Walnutport; Edward and Edna Strobel of Slatington; John and Mary Ann Vidumsky of Allentown; Vincent and Katherine Palumbo of Whitehall; Paul and Doris Behum of Kunkletown and John and Gertrude Bielen of Douglassville were all married in 1950. They are the longest married of 93 couples expected to attend the celebration at the Cathedral of Saint Catharine of Siena in Allentown, which is scheduled for 3 p.m.Thirty-seven other couples that have been married 50 or more years have also registered. In total the couples to be honored have been married more than 4,100 years.Diocese of Allentown Bishop John Barres will celebrate Mass at the event and deliver the homily. Each of the couples in attendance will receive a personalized certificate signed by Bishop Barres.The Diocesan Office of Marriage and Family Life Formation sponsors the annual celebration. Couples celebrating five, 25, 40, 50 and 60 or more years of marriage are invited.
