The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group accepted nominations for officers at last week's meeting. Ruthann Feane accepted a nomination for the position of secretary and Nancy Gerber accepted the position of vice president.Fall cleanupThe annual Fall SKIP Clean Up is scheduled for this Saturday. Interested volunteers should report to the M & T Bank parking lot at the Five Points intersection before 9 a.m.Residents and business owners may lend a hand by cleaning their respective sidewalks and properties that day.Garbage bags, safety vests, gloves and complimentary beverages will be provided. Trash bags must then be placed beside a state highway for collection purposes. Trash may also be disposed of in a dumpster located at the rear of the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St.Zion LewistownPastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley. The service will include the celebration of Harvest Home. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.Bible study sessions are held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursdays.Teen/YA book clubThe next meeting of the Tamaqua Public Library's Teen/Young Adult Book Club will be at 6 p.m. Monday.For more information, call 570-668-4660.The library is located at 30 S. Railroad St.Garden clubThe Lewistown Valley Garden Club met Aug. 25 with Penn State master Gardener Jill Schade as guest speaker. Schade provided information about the herb Comfrey and presented each member with a small bag of herbs designed to be used in the bath.Lunch was served by Sue Hower.The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the social hall. Guest speaker will be Elizabeth Leiby of Leiby's Farm Market. Her topic will be what it takes for farmers to get food from the field to the table.Older and bolderThe Salvation Army's Older and Bolder group kicked off its Fall session on Sept. 16. The meeting included a review of upcoming activities, which include a mini wellness fair, presented by Diakon on Sept. 23, and a luncheon show at Penn's Peak on Sept. 30.For more information, or to join the group, call Dina at 570-668-0410.Facebook workshopThe Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce and the Tamaqua Community Art Center have joined forces to present a workshop on using the social media website Facebook to expand an audience for your business, etc.The session will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 29 at the art center.
