Rush approves new 3-year police contract
Rush Township has approved a new three-year pact for its police department.
On a 2-0 measure, with Supervisor Jeaninne Motroni absent, the township's board of supervisors on Thursday approved the collective bargaining agreement.As part of their motion, supervisors will sign the agreement upon the review of the township solicitor Chris Riedlinger, per his recommendation.Riedlinger said the new contract will span from Jan. 1, 2016, through Dec. 31, 2018. The current three-year contract was set to expire Dec. 31, he said.Under the new contract, full-time officers will receive a $1.25-an-hour salary increase in each of the three years, Riedlinger said.That will bump their salary to $23.99 an hour in 2016, he said.At present, Riedlinger said the township has two full-time officers.However, one of those officers, Cpl. Adam Sinton, will resign from his current position, with his final date of employment Sept. 26.Based on that, supervisors agreed to accept Sinton's resignation. Supervisors said Sinton has accepted a job in Allentown.Part-time officersIn a related matter, supervisors agreed to increase the wage rate of part-time police officers employed by the township to $16 an hour.Afterward, supervisors hired three part-time officers, including Joseph David, Douglas Litwhiler, and Corey Herring. Herring was hired retroactive to Sept. 15, 2015.Other businessSupervisors also:• Accepted Steven Troxell's resignation, with his final date of employment retroactive to Sept. 11. Troxell was hired in July for the road/sewer department at a rate of $17 per hour.• Hired Barry Ruch for the road/sewer department, at a pay rate of $17 an hour, retroactive to Aug. 31.• Agreed to transfer the township police department's 2007 Ford Explorer to the township fire department.• Accepted the Rush Township Fair Housing Resolution for 2015.• Appointed William Kennedy and Frank Yeneskie as alternates for the township's zoning hearing board.• Announced the township is looking for a resident to serve as an alternate on the township's planning commission. Interested candidates may send a letter of interest to the township board of supervisors.• Announced that Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 4-10, and urged residents to not forget to change the batteries in their smoke detectors.• Accepted Marian Catholic's request to have township fire police direct traffic after home games.• Agreed to change next month's meeting from Oct. 15 to Oct. 22.
