A Carbon County man admitted in the county court to operating a methamphetamine lab in his home.
Herman Thomas McFarland Jr., 49, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of deposits, store or disposal of chemical waste.McFarland also entered a plea to driving under the influence in an unrelated case.Drug caseThe state Attorney General office arrested McFarland after agents served a search warrant on Sept. 12, 2014, at a home in Lower Towamensing Township, where McFarland and Kelly Neff resided.After determining that meth was being produced in the orange box trailer in the backyard of the residence, the state police Clandestine Laboratory Response Team was notified and requested to process the scene.The team seized a number of items during their search, including bottles of Ronsonol lighter fluid, un-iodized salt, bottles of sulfuric acid, containers of drain opener, cans of Coleman fuel, a bottle of muriatic acid, coffee filters, lithium batteries, a plastic funnel, pill grinders, instant cold packs, bottle caps with residue, green plastic bottles containing unknown solids and liquid, and a clear plastic Powerade bottle containing unknown white solid.All of the items are commonly used to produce meth.The seized items were packaged and secured for processing by the Clandestine Laboratory Response Team.DUI caseMcFarland was arrested for DUI by state police in Lower Towamensing Township. Troopers stopped him after observing him driving and knew his license was under suspension-DUI related.Serfass deferred sentencing because McFarland needs a drug and alcohol evaluation for the DUI charge.McFarland was scheduled to go on trial Monday on all charges.
