Schuylkill man's death being investigated

The death of a Schuylkill County man on Friday shortly after police used a stun gun to subdue him is under investigation. The man was identified as Lucas Markus, 33, of Minersville.

The incident occurred at 4:10 a.m. Friday when state police at Frackville were dispatched to the intersection of Main and Second streets in Girardville for a report of a man running up and down Main Street yelling and trying to get into passing cars.Troopers said they made contact with Markus upon their arrival. Markus did not respond to verbal commands from the troopers and was subsequently Tasered.As he was being handcuffed he went into cardiac arrest. Troopers immediately called for an ambulance and began CPR. Ashland ambulance along with Shenandoah ALS responded and took over care of Markus.Markus was flown to Penn State Health St. Joseph Reading. Markus was pronounced deceased on Saturday at 2:35 p.m.An autopsy was performed on Monday at the Reading hospital. A representative said the autopsy was inconclusive. The determination of the cause of death is pending toxicology and histopathology testing.Troopers said the investigation is ongoing.
