It's puppies galore at Carbon County Animal Shelter

The Carbon County Animal Shelter is home to many dogs throughout the year.

They don't typically house puppies, especially ones younger than 8 weeks old, but a recent incident involving a pregnant dog has created a unique situation for shelter staff.Tom Connors, director of the shelter, and his staff are currently caring for 10 pit bull mix puppies that were born nearly two weeks ago.The staff was unaware that their mother was pregnant when she came to the shelter. When she started showing signs of pregnancy she was taken to the vet for confirmation. These puppies and their parents will be up for adoption once they are old enough to leave their mother. In the meantime, Connors and crew will be working hard to make sure mom, Sage; dad, Bear; and the pups are comfortable in their surroundings. For more information on the dogs or to donate to help the shelter, located on the Broad Mountain in Nesquehoning, call the shelter at 570-325-4828.

Bear, a 5-year-old male collie mix, is available for adoption at the Carbon County Animal Shelter.
