DeNaples' bid to do business with casino is rejected

HARRISBURG (AP) - Pennsylvania gambling regulators are rejecting a second bid by a northeastern Pennsylvania billionaire to do business with the casino that he founded but relinquished in a deal to drop perjury charges.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board voted it down Wednesday, preserving existing restrictions on Louis DeNaples' dealings with Mount Airy Casino Resort. The Times-Tribune of Scranton reports that DeNaples' petition drew a 4-3 gaming board majority, but it still failed because one legislative appointee, Richard Jewell, voted against it.DeNaples agreed in 2009 to transfer ownership of the casino to a family trust.DeNaples had sought to limit the scope of a background check necessary to become a service provider. The gaming board's enforcement division warned board members against letting an applicant set the conditions of a background check.
