New Ringgold man cited for DUI in Tamaqua

A New Ringgold man who fell asleep in his car in the middle of the street has been cited by Tamaqua police.

Police were on patrol at 4:45 a.m. when they were alerted to a car parked in the middle of Cherry Street. In the driver's seat of the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta, they found a sleeping Nicholas John Toth, 21, of 41 Municipal Road.As officers tried to wake him they noted a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person.When Toth stepped out of the vehicle he told police he had been at a friend's house and had "two or three beers." In his left front pocket was a multicolor glass pipe and several clear baggies. Officers found several pink baggies and rolling papers in the car.After failing three field sobriety tests Toth was transported to St. Luke's Miners Hospital-Coaldale campus for blood tests. He was then released into the custody of his mother, cited for driving under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia.
