Tamaqua water boil advisory lifted

A water boil advisory that had been in effect since 9 p.m. Friday in a portion of Tamaqua's Middle Ward has been lifted effective 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The water boil precautions followed repairs to a water main break on Pine Street, Route 309, shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday when a crack developed in a cast iron pipe beneath the roadway.

The leak forced the shutdown of a section of the state highway and left some residents without water. When water was restored late Friday, residents were advised to boil water to prevent potential health issues. That requirement is no longer necessary, say borough workers.

The boil advisory impacted residents of the 500 and 600 blocks of Pine Street and the 500 block of North Railroad Street.
