Buy a treasure, eat a Holy Dog

Lansford has two new businesses.

B & B's Treasure Chest and The Holy Dog held ribbon cutting ceremonies with the Carbon Chamber and Economic Development Corporation and Lansford Alive! on July 25 to make their presence known to the community.B & B's Treasure Chest is a store that sells vintage antique collectibles. Located at 38 W. Ridge St. and owned by William and Beverly Unangst of Lansford, the store sells objects like comic books, paintings, Native American collectibles, antique desks, refinished chairs, and even an old-fashioned steamer trunk. All of the prices seen on the items for sale are negotiable. The idea started with William's personal collection of antiques. "A lot of my stuff was just sitting around collecting dust, so we decided to put it out there for someone else to enjoy," he said. From there, the owners gained the space for the store and built the shelves now seen in the building. William finds new items to fill those shelves by going to farmers markets and flea markets.B & B's Treasure Chest has been open for four months, and its owners say that its future looks promising. "It's been going well so far. We're happy with the people we've been meeting and everyone says our prices are spot on," William said. The Holy Dog is located in the Panther Valley Mini Mall. As the name implies, the main focus of the business is the wide variety of hot dogs served, including ones topped with chili or macaroni and cheese, both homemade. Burgers, pizzas, hoagies, a variety of appetizers, ice cream, and milkshakes are also available.Owners Kevin Horan and Lacey Gonzalez-Horan, of Lansford, came up with the name when they originally planned to house the restaurant in the Trinity & Saint Philip Episcopal Church in Lansford. Plans for the church fell through, but the Holy Dog name stuck. One of Holy Dog's premier dishes is the chili dog. The homemade chili recipe was worked on for over a year."We had test groups come in and try the chili. We wanted to make it absolutely perfect," Kevin said. The Holy Dog has only been open since May 1, but plans for additions to the menu are already being made. CMPs will soon be added as a dessert, and there is a possibility of the restaurant serving breakfast in the near future.
