Zion Music Academy theme: 'The Magic of Movies and Television'

Zion UCC, Second and Iron streets in Lehighton, will be hosting its sixth annual summer Music Academy from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday through Wednesday.

This free program is offered to any school aged child grades K-12, college students and to younger children accompanied by a parent.There are multiple choices available for students, who can participate in one or all of the offered stations.There will be a station where musical crafts are designed. This is a favorite for many of the younger participants. There will also be choral opportunities for those who enjoy singing.The academy also features a junior band with participants from grade three through eight, who already play a musical instrument.There will also be a senior band with students from ninth through 12th grade and returning college students.There will be a recorder class for students interested in learning how to play this fun instrument.Several music educators and college-aged music education majors will be on hand to assist students, as well as many dedicated volunteers who enjoy helping youngsters have a better appreciation and understanding of organized music.A short presentation will be given at 7 p.m. next Thursday, where participants will demonstrate the music and crafts they have worked on during the week.The public is invited. The event will be held in the held in the church sanctuary.This year's program will feature familiar songs from television and movies.Both the senior and junior bands and the chorus will be performing songs from this genre including selections from the movie musical "Les Miserables," The Mickey Mouse Club, Hogan's Heroes and more.Light refreshments will be served each night.For more information contact Brad Cressley, director of music at Zion UCC at 610-392-1810 or at
