Carbon County woman facing drug charge

A Carbon County woman is facing a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia following an incident that started in Rush Township but ended in Nesquehoning.

Justine Simon, 40, of 205 Yard St., Nesquehoning has been charged as the result of an incident on July 21.At 4:10 p.m. Nesquehoning officer Timothy Wuttke received a call from Cpl. Adam Sinton of the Rush Township police that he was requesting assistance in locating a hit-and-run vehicle that may be headed for Nesquehoning. The wanted vehicle was a green Jeep Cherokee, registered to Simon. It was involved in a crash with an occupied vehicle in Rush with the driver fleeing the scene.Wuttke went to Simon's home and found the Jeep parked in front. While checking the vehicle the officer found damage consistent with the hit-and-run in Rush. While looking inside the vehicle the officer observed what appeared to be several packets with some type of green stamp on it. Due to his training and experience Wuttke believed the packets are commonly used as packets to hold heroin.Attempts to find Simon were unsuccessful despite knocking on her door and yelling for her. Wuttke had the vehicle towed to a secured spot so he could obtain a search warrant to enter the vehicle.Simon later contacted Wuttke to see why her vehicle was towed. She was transported to the police station and questioned about the packets and the Rush incident. She refused to speak to officers and requested an attorney. Wuttke immediately ceased the interview and Simon was taken back to her residence. The search warrant was secured and the vehicle was searched and the packets were used for heroin. On July 28 Simon was interviewed by Rush officer Sinton about the hit and run and admitted to having a problem with heroin, and also admitted that the bags in her vehicle were heroin bags.
