Boy, 12, flown from bike crash

A 12-year-old Tamaqua boy was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when he struck a passing car while riding his bike.

The boy was riding his bicycle south on Bowe Street, traveling down a steep hill, shortly before 3 p.m.As he reached the intersection with Spruce Street, he failed to stop, just as a Nissan Altima also reached the intersection.The car, driven by a 17-year-old male from New Ringgold, was traveling west on Spruce Street.The boy and the bike crashed into the passenger side of the car and the boy was tossed into the roadway.The driver of the car was not injured.The victim was airlifted to the Lehigh Valley Hospital Trauma Center, Salisbury Township, suffering from leg and head injuries.
