Crashes investigated

State police at Fern Ridge reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers recently.

A hit-and-run crash was reported along Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township, Monroe County, at 8:11 a.m. July 28. Troopers said John J. Knapic III, 34, of Forty Fort, Luzerne County, was driving a 2013 Freightliner tractor with trailer eastbound when another vehicle's right front end struck the left rear of the trailer portion of his rig. After impact the other driver continued eastbound. Damages were minor to the rig and no injuries were reported.A two-vehicle crash occurred at 8:05 a.m. July 29 along Neola Road, in Jackson Township, Monroe County. Troopers said a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado truck driven by Matthew J. Gendron, 31, of Effort, struck a 2003 Buick Century operated by Robert A. Gentile, 22, of Dunmore, Luzerne County. Gentile was injured and treated at the scene by emergency personnel.Troopers cited Gendron for the crash.A one-vehicle crash was reported at 3:35 p.m. on Saturday along Sugar Hollow Road in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Guy R. Sheppard II, 25, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound and down a decline while negotiating a right curve when he lost control. He steered to the left, causing the vehicle to overturn and roll over onto its driver's side off the road in a wooded area.Sheppard was not injured. The Jeep had to be towed.A one-vehicle crash was reported at 9:45 p.m. Saturday along Jonas Road in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Leonard Macaluso, 22, of Bayonne, New Jersey, was driving a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta westbound when it left the road and struck a mailbox and then proceeded to strike a group of trees.Troopers said Macaluso then fled the scene on foot but was later contacted. The vehicle was left at the scene because it sustained disabling damages, troopers said.Macaluso has been issued citations for the crash.At 9:50 a.m. Sunday a one-vehicle crash occurred along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Sarah R. Patton, 61, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry eastbound when she fell asleep at the wheel. The car went off the road on the left side into the median. It traveled down a bank before coming to rest.Patton suffered back pain but refused medical treatment. A passenger, Chelsea S. Patton, 25, same address, was not injured.
