Carbon County Prison Board members continue to discuss future overcrowding issues at the correctional facility in Nesquehoning.
Warden James Youngkin reported the inmate population remained level in the past month, during which time the head count stayed in the 130 range. The facility is designed to hold 174 inmates.Officials said the number of commitments fluctuates from time to time, reaching 160 two months prior. Thomas Crabtree, president of Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates, Mechanicsburg, projected that by 2018, Carbon County will house 250 inmates. In the 10-year period of 1997-2007, the population doubled from 78 to 156.
