Nesquehoning has reached a tentative contract with its office staff.
On Wednesday, borough council voted to approve a tentative agreement with the three employees for a five-year contract, retroactive to the beginning of the year.Council President David Hawk outlined the terms of the new agreement. They include:• A 60-cent annual raise for the years 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019;• A one-time 75-cent increase for the borough clerk;• Increase the life insurance coverage from $40,000 to $50,000;• Add some terminology regarding short-term and long-term disability coverage;• Adjust and clarify working hours.Council said that it has been working on the agreement for several months. This is the second contract that has been settled this year.In April, council reached an agreement with its union employees in the public works department. It was finalized last month.Council will now continue negotiations with Police Chief Sean Smith, who has been working without a formal contract since 2011 because the one agreed upon in December 2011 was voided by the courts in 2013 because it was acted upon by an outgoing council and was against public policy.
