Family to Heath: 'You are an evil poison'

Before Lehigh County Judge Kelly M. Banach imposed a life sentence on Anthony Darrell Heath, convicted of killing Angela Steigerwalt of Tamaqua on Feb. 1, 2014, Steigerwalt's family was given an opportunity to speak.

Her uncle, Donald Serfass, spoke first."I never married or had children. As a result, I counted on Angela to look out for my interests. She was going to handle my personal matters as I grow old," Serfass says. "Now, at the age of 60 and entering my senior years, the comfort and reassurance has been torn away from me."You are an evil poison. You're a psychopath who needs confinement. You were able to fool Angela because she was a trusting soul who only saw the good in people," he said. "But you can't fool any other person sitting in this courtroom. You certainly didn't fool a jury of your peers."You're a coward and a textbook example of psychopathy. You're a disgrace to humanity and a plague on society. And where you're going, there are lots more like you. It's called justice, even though it doesn't bring Angela back."Steigerwalt's mother, Jean Serfass, also spoke."I love her now and forever," she said. She reflected on Heath's treatment of her daughter's body."Poor Angie, thrown out like garbage. A cruel punishment, and something she did not deserve," Serfass said.To Heath, she says, "I cannot believe how you lied under oath."On his sentence, Serfass says she hope life in prison "keeps you from doing this to some other woman."Angela Steigerwalt's sister, Sherri Steigerwalt, spoke."I was in such grief I couldn't function," she said. "There are so many unanswered questions."Steigerwalt told Heath she hopes that "whenever you step out of your cell, you feel the same fear Angela did."
