Traffic stop leads to drug bust

Two local residents are facing narcotics charges following a routine traffic stop in Hometown on Monday.

According Rush Township Police Sgt. Duane Frederick, officers on patrol noticed a Volkswagen sedan commit a traffic violation as it proceeded along Claremont Avenue, Route 309.During the routine traffic stop, officers discovered suspicious material, resulting in probable cause to conduct a vehicle search.Closer inspection revealed narcotics, illicit prescription medications, numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia, a substantial amount of cash, and bookkeeping documents consistent with written records that indicated sales of narcotics.Police took Noel Abadia, 34, of Coaldale, and Elizabeth A Garrett, 53, of Summit Hill, into custody.Abadia was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, which is a felony; two counts of possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor; and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.Abadia was driven to the Schuylkill County Correctional Facility, where he appeared before District Court Judge Anthony J. Kilker for a formal arraignment.Garrett faces charges related to possession of drug paraphernalia, Frederick said.
