Lehighton Borough Council tabled action to participate in a state-funded study of a proposed regional police department, saying its members are not sure they are interested in the concept.

At a previous meeting to discuss the regionalization idea, representatives from Lehighton, Weissport, Franklin Township and East Penn Township participated.Chief of Police Dennis Wentz, who was Lehighton's representative at that meeting, said the study would have looked at costs associated with the operation of a consolidated police department. No council members attended the previous meeting when regionalization was discussed.
