3.36 inches of rain fell in Carbon

A few areas in Carbon and Monroe counties experienced heavy rains overnight as storms rolled through the region.

Brian Wimer, senior meteorologist at AccuWeather, said that a heavy band of storms pushed through northeastern Carbon, Monroe and Pike late Sunday.Albrightsville reported 3.36 inches of rain fell late Sunday night, while farther south, Lehighton only reported 0.45 inches.In Christmans, Penn Forest Township, 2.76 inches of rain reportedly fell in 45 minutes, Wimer said.Polk Township also reported 3.21 inches of rain; while Saylorsburg had 1.78 inches during that same time period.Wimer said that looking at the radar, there wasn't as much rain moving southward.Schuylkill County had some rain, with Pottsville reporting only 0.4 inches overnight. There is still a chance this week for the area to experience additional rainfall.The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for this week. This afternoon and evening could bring showers and thunderstorms that include heavy downpours, causing drainage flooding.Hot and humid weather then moves back in Wednesday and Thursday with temperatures in the mid- to upper-90s.
