Update: Police capture suspect at Beltzville

Police from across Carbon County, as well as state troopers and Beltzville park rangers, searched for a suspect for more than three hours Thursday night before arresting him at Beltzville Laket.

Earlier today a van was involved in a hit-and-run and lost its front bumper.

Franklin Township Police spotted a van fitting the description near the entrance to Beltzville State Park about 7 p.m. When they attempted to pull the van over the man got out of the van and fled into the woods.

Franklin, Lehighton, Mahoning, Kidder and East Penn police are on scene. Police said they were searching for a black male, wearing a dark shirt and Wranglers, according to scanner reports.

The man was captured at 10:24 p.m. near the intersection of Saw Mill Road and Pohopoco Drive.

Pohopoco Drive had been shut down during the search.

No other details are known at this time.
