Court camera project moves ahead

Schuylkill County's plan to outfit its magisterial district courts with security cameras took another step forward Wednesday when commissioners hired STS 007 LLC of Huntingdon Valley to provide and install them for $14,418. STS 007 was the lowest of two bidders. A third bidder was rejected because it failed to meet bid specifications.

The other company vying for the job was Spotts Brothers, which offered $24,850.The rejected bid was from Northeastern Automated Technologies, which bid $21,668.64 for the job.Commissioners on June 17 decided to have the closed-circuit television systems with interior and exterior cameras, and a network video recording system installed at the courts.The Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts fully reimbursed the county for the purchase through an appropriation of state funds.The systems will be installed at Judge Christina Hale's court in Frackville, Judge David A. Plachko's court in Port Carbon, Judge James R. Ferrier's court in Orwigsburg, Judge David J. Rossi's court in Tremont, Judge Anthony J. Kilker's court in Shenandoah and Judge Stephen J. Bayer's court in Tamaqua.A system was installed last year at District Justice James K. Reiley's court in Pottsville when the office was moved.In other matters Wednesday, commissioners approved a $964,357 2015 Homeland Security grant program grant agreement on behalf of the 911 center.The money will support planning, training, exercises, equipment, and maintenance and administrative functions of the East Central Task Force from Sept. 1 through Aug. 31, 2018.In a related matter, commissioners approved a $23,570, one-year service agreement, with Kova Corporation of Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey.The agreement is for an 88 channel Audiolog Max Pro recording system that was purchased in 2008.The money comes from Act 78 and Act 56 funding, surcharges on cell and landline phones.The agreement runs from Aug. 1 to July 31, 2016. The agreement has been in place since 2009 with no price increase.
