Bowmanstown residents likely have noticed by now several odd-looking slabs that have been installed at certain areas in town.
The slabs will eventually be handicap ramps, but not until homeowners in those portions of town get new sidewalks put in.Recently, the slabs have been installed at all four corners of Mill and Hamilton streets, as well as Lime and Hamilton.Tara Takerer, borough treasurer, said the borough was finally awarded its portion of Community Development Block Grant funds from Carbon County. The CDBG funds, in the amount of $92,879, are from the years 2011 and 2012, Takerer said. The ADA handicap ramps are a requirement from the state."The homeowners now need to put sidewalks in," she said. "When that homeowner puts sidewalks in, it will cut the slabs open down to flow with the sidewalks."
