Carbon woman pleads guilty in three cases

A Carbon County woman entered guilty pleas in three pending criminal cases on Tuesday in the county court.

She entered the pleas before Judge Joseph J. Matika.Amber Collen Defiore, 22, of Lehighton, pleaded to two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count each of driving under the influence, false reports to law enforcement and persistent disorderly conduct.She was arrested on the two drugs counts and the conduct charge for incidents in Lansford on Sept. 22 and Dec. 22, 2014, in the area of 257 E. Abbott St. The DUI and false report charges stem from an incident on Feb. 26 in Mahoning Township when she was stopped by township police following a retail theft incident at the Walmart store. In connection with the DUI charge, she refused to submit to a blood test.Defiore is currently an inmate at the Lehigh County prison in Allentown serving a term for a probation violation.In the two Lansford incidents police found various drug paraphernalia including empty baggies of heroin. Defiore admitted to a drug addiction problem.On the DUI count Matika sentenced her to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, render 25 hours of community service when released from jail, and enter an intensive outpatient D&A program.On the other counts Matika imposed one-year probation periods with the first two running concurrent and the third consecutive for a total period of two years. She was give credit for 19 days on the jail term for time spent on the DUI charge and was paroled.She must return to the Lehigh prison to finish that term.
