Woman who fled hospital following arrest enters plea

A Carbon County woman who was arrested for causing a disturbance in her hometown, then fleeing a hospital after she was taken there for a blood test, entered a guilty plea to reduced charges Tuesday in the county court.

Rosa A. Fritts, 34, of Palmerton, pleaded guilty before Judge Joseph J. Matika to one count each of persistent disorderly conduct (a misdemeanor), and summary counts of harassment and public drunkenness.Fritts was arrested following incidents on Oct. 17, 2013, in the area of 548 Mauch Chunk Road.Palmerton police responded to the area to a report of a woman lying on the ground. Fritts was the woman and was highly intoxicated, police said. She was taken to her residence and told to remain there.Later the same day police responded to the area of her residence for a report of a woman causing a disturbance. The woman was Fritts. Police took her into custody but she continued to cause a disturbance.Police then transported her to the Palmerton hospital for a blood test, but she fled the hospital. She was apprehended a short time later.Fritts told Judge Joseph J. Matika that she had an alcohol abuse problem at the time of the incident but has since addressed it. She said she spent 27 days in an intensive inpatient rehabilitation program and is continuing with counseling.On the conduct count Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, and render 50 hours of community service.On the two summary offenses Matika imposed a fine of $100 on each count plus costs.Fritts must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
