Man's alcohol level 4 times legal limit

A Lansford man whose blood alcohol content was almost four times the legal threshold for impaired driving faces charges.

Leonard Sniscak, 58, of 41 Coal St., was charged with being an habitual offender, two counts of driving under the influence, three counts of driving under suspension and driving without insurance after being pulled over at Abbott and Springgarden streets on May 18.According to a criminal complaint field by patrolman Richard J. Reis, here's what happened:Reis saw Sniscak behind the wheel of a Dodge Stratus that was swerving from side to side, crossing the solid double yellow line several times. Reis knew Sniscak's license was suspended for a previous impaired driving incident.Reis pulled him over, and asked for his documents. Sniscak gave Reis a registration card, but said he didn't have a driver's license. Asked for proof of insurance, Sniscakfumbled with several cards, mumbling. Reis could smell alcohol on his breath, and Sniscak's eyes were glassy and he slurred hiswords.Sniscak eventually told Reis he couldn't find the card, and handed the plastic envelope of cards to Reis. Reis handed them back and asked Sniscak to find the insurance card. After several attempts to find it, Sniscak told Reis he didn't have one.Asked if he'd had any alcoholic beverages, Sniscak said no. Asked again, he admitted to having had a few.Reis asked him to get out of the car for field sobriety tests. Sniscak swayed back and forth as he walked. Reis gave him instructions, but Sniscak asked several times to repeat them. Reis halted the test after Sniscak failed the heel-toe walk because he was concerned Sniscak would fall because he could not keep his balance. He arrested Sniscak for driving under the influence and took him to St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus in Coaldale, for a blood-alcohol test.Sniscak's BAC was 0.314 percent. The threshold for impaired driving is 0.08 percent.
