Bond sale to save school nearly $600K
Pleasant Valley School District will save nearly $600,000 on a bond sale.
Business manager Susan Famularo informed the school board on Thursday that the district will save $597,740.Famularo said the savings are per the final terms and conditions of the bond sale held earlier in the day, as presented by Public Financial Management Inc.She said the savings are a reduction in the district's debt service, and that most of the savings will be realized in the 2015-16 school year.Essentially, Famularo said the savings will reduce the district's deficit that it budgeted for less out of fund balance.In other business, the board:• Accepted the letter of resignation from Patrick Murphy, physics teacher and science department chairman, effective June 30, 2015.• Accepted the letter of resignation from Stephanie Balliet, paraprofessional associate, part-time, effective July 22.• Accepted the letter of resignation from Shavonne Liddic from the positions of mathematics teacher and high school department chair, effective July 1, 2015.• Accepted the letter of resignation from Kevin Scanlon as school counselor, effective July 2, 2015.• Accepted the letter of retirement from Debra L. Duff, secretary to the superintendent, effective the end of the work day Aug. 7.• Approved Jennifer Ansbach as a special-education teacher, Pleasant Valley Intermediate School, at a salary of $45,400, Step 1 Masters, effective Aug. 25.• Approved Andrew Uhler as a school counselor at Pleasant Valley Intermediate School, at a salary of $45,400, Step 1 Masters, effective July 20.• Approved Vicki O'Rouke as an administrative secretary at the administration building, at a salary of $27,633, effective July 20.• Approved Leticia DiPipi as LTS, fourth grade for A. Balchune, Pleasant Valley Intermediate School, at a salary of $41,400, prorated, effective Aug. 25 through Nov. 9.• Approved Jason R. Smith as LTS, fifth grade for A. Menghini, Pleasant Valley Intermediate School, at a salary of $41,400, prorated, effective Aug. 25 through Nov. 4.• Approved Kathleen Dekmar as middle school language arts department head, Pleasant Valley Middle School, per the supplemental contract, effective the 2015-16 school year.• Approved Evelyn Harris as a substitute monitor/food service employee, with a start date to be announced.• Approved Danielle Unger for summer school, English, Pleasant Valley High School, for two full 30-hour sessions, effective July 7-July 30.• Approved Deb Stewart for summer school, special education/mathematics, Pleasant Valley High School, for two full 30-hour sessions, effective July 7-July 30.• Approved Talitha Graham for summer school, science/mathematics, Pleasant Valley High School, for one full 30-hour session, effective July 7-July 30.• Approved Marylue Tekin as a homebound instructor, Pleasant Valley High School, per the supplemental contract, effective the 2014-15 school year.• Approved Kathleen Dekmar as an eighth-grade ELA Cyber School curriculum developer, Pleasant Valley Middle School, at a salary of $775 stipend/course, effective July 20.• Approved June Pepe as substitute secretary/custodian, all buildings, per the substitute rate sheet, effective July 20.• Approved the transfer of Erica Mutto from school psychologist, Pleasant Valley Middle School, to school psychologist at Pleasant Valley Middle School/Pleasant Valley Elementary School, effective Aug. 25.• Approved the transfer of Jody Berube from educational consultant at Pleasant Valley Elementary, to educational consultant at Pleasant Valley Middle School, effective Aug. 25.• Approved the transfer of Lorraine McCutchan from administrative secretary to secretary to the superintendent, effective Aug. 10.• Approved a sabbatical leave of absence for Scott Castrone, teacher, effective for the 2015-16 school year.• Approved a payment from the school district stadium project account to Paverart Concrete Pavers, in the amount of $230.• Approved policies related to: Health examinations/screenings; food allergy management; medications; possession/use of asthma inhalers/epinephrine auto-injectors; and student accident insurance.• Approved the second reading of policies related to: Class rank; student records; and graduation. The policies will be listed on the Aug. 13 school board agenda for approval.• Approved a contract to hold a scholastic book fair to be held for all grades K-3, Sept. 8-11 at Pleasant Valley Elementary School.• Approved a contract to Physio-Control Inc. at a cost of $714, for technical service agreement for two CR + AEDs for the period of July 1 through Sept. 30.• Announced there will be a summer reading and math camp at 8:30 a.m. July 20-30 at Pleasant Valley Elementary School.• Announced there will be a Mad Science Camp at 9 a.m. Aug. 10-13 at Pleasant Valley Elementary School.• Announced there will be a Board of Education meeting at 8 p.m. Aug. 13 at the district offices.
