Towamensing Twp. awards road contracts

Contracts for road contracts were awarded at the July 2 meeting of the Towamensing supervisors.

Although Kelly George was at the June meeting to explain how bad Stagecoach Road is, it will have to wait its turn in the work of the company receiving the bid. She was also at the July meeting to see what progress had been made. That award went to Bruce George Paving and Excavating for $472,330.Other awards were for seal coating, single coat, to Shiffer Bituminous Service Co. for $85,113, and seal coating, double coat, also to Shiffer Bituminous, $90,309.Stone and anti-skid went to Lehigh Asphalt for a total of $93,700 for four sizes of stone. Heating oil and diesel awards went to R.F. Ohl, 2,000 gallons heating oil at $2.46 for a total of $4,926, and low sulfur diesel, 18,000 gallons at $2.57 per gallon for a total of $46,170.No bids were awarded for emulsion and mowing and trimming. The mowing bids seemed too high and it could be done by a crew member at a lower cost. The emulsion will be supplied by the contractor.The Lake View Estates project has been completed and inspected by engineer Greg Haas. Escrow money will be returned.Resident Randolph Getz told supervisors about the road conditions and potholes in his area of the township.A tentative date for the hearing on the subdivision and land development ordinance was set for Aug. 6 before the regular meeting. At that time the planning commission recommendation will be available. It will be considered at the county planning commission on July 21.Matt George, recreation vice president, said All-Star games are still being played on the recreation fields.The road crew is replacing damaged drainage pipes, cleaning the others and working on potholes.
