'Honoring Our Troops' theme for fair quilt block contest

The Carbon County Fair has announced the 2015 Quilt Block Contest Theme: "Honoring Our Troops."

Quilters are asked to use their imagination and colors red, white and blue.Each block must be 12.5 inches by 12.5 inches. The fabric must be 100 percent cotton, prewashed and treated to prevent bleeding.No buttons, charms or paint is allowed. The finished block should be laundered and pressed.Do not quilt the block.There is to be only one entry per exhibitor.Each block will become the property of the Carbon County Fair. A quilt will be constructed and will be sold at the 2016 Carbon County Fair.Premium money will be awarded to the top five places with first place receiving $10, second place $8, third place $6, fourth place $4, and fifth place $2.In addition, there will be a "Viewers Choice" award to the top three blocks.This will be determined by having the public vote for their favorite block with cash donations. The quilt block with the highest cash donation will receive a $50 Quilted Crow gift card.The second- and third- place quilt block with the next highest donations will each receive a $25 Quilted Crow gift card.Fair organizers are grateful to the Quilted Crow, located on Interchange Road in Lehighton, for its support.All cash raised through this year's Quilt Block Contest will be donated to the VFW Post 294-Albrightsville, which is collecting goods from patrons of local stores.The post will use the funds to offset the cost of sending packages to our troops who are stationed overseas.Deadline to register exhibits is July 18.The Carbon County Fair will be held Aug. 3 to Aug. 8.For more information to enter an exhibit at the fair, email
