Lansford pool open for the summer

Residents of the Lansford area looking for something to do on these hot summer days need only look to the Lansford Swimming Pool.

The pool is open seven days a week from noon to 7 p.m. Aerobics sessions are also held from 11 a.m. to noon Monday through Saturday.The pool's season starts a week after Memorial Day and ends a week before Labor Day.The pool's manager, Mary Ann Krajnak, said the pool was made with a specific purpose when it was dedicated in 1944. "It was originally built for the families of local coal miners," Krajnak said. It was also refurbished in 1981.Lansford's public pool offers food from its concession stand as well as a pavilion and game room available for rent. The concession stand is open every day and sells hot dogs, hamburgers, and wings, along with ice cream, candy and other goods. The pavilion and game room are each available for rent at $125. With all of this available to patrons, Krajnak estimates that 200 people stop by for a swim every day during the summer.Daily admission is $4 for children and $6 for adults. Children under 3 years old enter for free.The Lansford Swimming Pool will be holding a chicken dinner fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $9 and are sold at the pool office.
