Heath Trial Day 3: Video shows suspect's interview with police

As the Anthony Heath trial enters the third day, jurors watched a video taped interview Feb. 5. 2014, in Kinston, North Carolina.

In the interview, Anthony Darrell Heath tells troopers he last saw Angela Steigerwalt between 10 p.m. and midnight Friday, Jan 31.

That's when, he says, she dropped off her car for him to drive to North Carolina to visit his brother at Camp Lejeune.

He spoke with her Saturday afternoon, Feb. 1, and via text on Sunday morning, Feb. 2, Heath said.

He told troopers they were friends who had occasional intimate moments.

His story changed to say he was also scouting places for them to live because she wanted out of an abusive marriage.

Heath emphasized they were "not a couple."

In the video, Tpr. Joseph Campbell confronts Heath with photos of him shopping for a tote, lighter fluid and lighter in Walmart at around dawn Feb.1.

"Is there some reason you picked these up?" he asks Heath.

"I don't recall, sir," Heath answers.

Heath is accused of killing Steigerwalt, 35, of Tamaqua, dumping her body and setting it on fire, and then taking her car to North Carolina.
