Woman facing theft charge doesn't show for hearing

A Tamaqua woman accused of using another person's ATM card is back under court supervision after she failed to show up for a hearing.

Schuylkill County Judge John Domalakes on May 27 dissolved a bench warrant against Terri L. Kates, 36, and reinstated bail at at $5,000 percentage.Kates had been out on $5,000 unsecured bail since June 13, 2014.The bench warrant was issued Feb. 17.Domalakes ordered Kates to live at 100 Pitt St., Tamaqua, get a job, and pay a $50 bench warrant fee.Kates was also ordered to avoid drugs and alcohol and not go into places that serve alcohol.Tamaqua police on April 16, 2014 charged Kates and John Joseph Schlauch, 30, also of Tamaqua, receiving stolen property.According to court documents, the victim told police at 8:17 a.m. Feb. 11, 2014, that someone had used his bank card without his permission.After checking bank records, it was determined that an unauthorized $106 purchase was made two days earlier at the Fegley Mini Mart on Center Street.Surveillance footage from the store identified Kates and Schlauch as the people involved.Schlauch used the card to make the purchase, while Kates picked up the merchandise and took it out of the store.
