Panther Valley library receives grant
Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded Panther Valley Library a grant of $929 to support summer literacy this week.
"The Library and Friends of the Library are very excited about receiving this wonderful grant from Dollar General. Without their support we could not do all the programs that we plan for the children of the Panther Valley," said library volunteer Dawn Neyer. This summer the Panther Valley Library's Children's Literacy program is called Every Hero Has a Story and will include stories about past present and future heroes. The goal is to keep children interested in reading, mentor them to further their reading self-confidence, provide ways children can increase their reading level or maintain their current reading level over the summer vacation.Panther Valley engaged a teaching magician who is spectacular and back for his second year, Batman and Catwoman who talk to the kids about how self-confidence is important plus the ways they can properly address and stop bullying and the children are also going to use a local author Charles Shuck's book "Gabe to the Rescue" to discuss Gabe the Military Dog."It is exciting to see the impact grants from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation make throughout the country, especially as we cross the $100 million threshold in overall donations and the difference it has made to nearly 6 million people," said Rick Dreiling, Dollar General's chairman and CEO. "The Dollar General Literacy Foundation truly embodies the company's mission of serving others throughout the communities we serve."The Dollar General Literacy Foundation is proud to support initiatives that help others improve their lives through literacy and education. Since its inception in 1993, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded more than $100 million in grants to nonprofit organizations, helping nearly 6 million people take their first steps toward literacy or continued education.
