Two injured in Hometown crash

Police and emergency responders are on the scene of a two-vehicle crash at Hometown's Five Points intersection that injured two and sent one to a regional hospital via medical helicopter.

The 2:42 p.m. collision was reported by Schuylkill Communications Center to involve entrapment.

According to Rush Township Sergeant Duane Frederick, Kevin Resino, 58, Hawley was traveling south on Claremont Avenue in a 1997 Mercury.

At the same time, Alex Sakas, 76, Bethlehem, was traveling east on Mahanoy Avenue attempting to cross Route 309 to continue east when his 2012 Toyota was struck by Resino's Mercury.

The Mercury flipped several times landing on its tires.

Resino was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Cret and Sakas was taken to St Lukes Hospital, Miners Campus, Coaldale.

Police said Resino failed to stop at the red light.

Witnesses at the scene described the crash as especially violent.

Traffic is backed up in all directions on what is a busy Farmers Market Wednesday.
