Community meal

A free community meal will be served at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton on Tuesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m.The menu will be baked sausage with peppers and onions, pierogies in butter and onions, baked beans, and light desserts such as pudding, fruit, etc.Pope Francis was recently quoted as saying, "Pray for the hungry ... and then feed them because that is what prayer is all about." Hearing the Gospel message and living it are two different things.The church community meal reaches out to those who are hungry and in doing that are living out their call as Christians.Historical societyPalmerton Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the Knights Gallery Room of the Palmerton Area Library. The guest will be Holocaust speaker Jeannette Eichenwal, an Allentown City Council member. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer period. The public is invited without cost or obligation.Class of 2015 BaccalaureateFamily, friends and those who wish to support the Senior Class of 2015 of Palmerton Area High School are invited to Baccalaureate being held at Sacred Heart Church, Palmerton, on Sunday at 7 p.m. Seniors please come at 6:30 and bring your graduating robes and caps.Palmerton graduation is Monday.Holy Trinity NewsHoly Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton is welcoming the Rev. Michael Frost as its new pastor. On Sunday there will be no 8 a.m. service. Worship will be at 10:45 a.m. followed by a welcome luncheon. The luncheon will be held in the fellowship hall. Call the office for reservations.Following the luncheon will be Sundaes in the Park to celebrate the last day of Sunday school.There will be a games of whiffle ball in the Borough Park as well as other games and activities.Changes at Heritage CenterThe Feature Room of the Palmerton Heritage Center at 410 Delaware Ave. is undergoing some improvements in the form of repainting the walls and shampooing the carpet.As a result, there will be no display there until the fall. When they are completed, the next exhibit will be on Stephen S. Palmer, with articles accumulated by the late Warren Siegmond, and donated by his widow.The other sections of the Heritage Center are open each week from Wednesday through Saturday; phone 610-824-6954 for a recording listing the hours each day, or simply try the front door. If it is unlocked, someone is available to show you around. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.The front window of the Heritage Center has a display honoring the 100th anniversary of the Concourse Club.Stop by and see it any time.
