School board gets good news updates
As the school year is drawing to a close there was a good deal of positive news to report at Thursday evening's Pleasant Valley school board meeting.
The meeting kicked off with a video presentation introducing those in attendance to the Life Skills Program at Pleasant Valley Middle School. PVMS Principal Rocco Seiler introduced the video, which showed some of the program's students speaking about what they found to be positive about the program.Seiler introduced Randy Hinton, one of the program's teachers and the producer of the video."Our program is academic based," Hinton said. "But instead of algebra we are using math to make change and cook food. These are skills that these students will take with them and use every day."The students in Hinton's class are learning the skills that they will need to transition not only into the high school, but into the world after school."It's not just skills … it's skills for life," Seiler said."I suggest that if you are ever having a bad day, you stop by Mrs. Hinton's class. These kiddos are always happy to see you and just bring a smile to your face," Superintendent Carole Geary said. There was also good news from the high school. According to Principal John Gress, three high school students have been awarded 2015 Singer Scholarships. Jessica Talimci, Abigail Roselli and Nathaniel Rhoads will each receive $30,000 toward their educational goals.Gress also announced this year's valedictorian, Jennifer Braddock, and salutatorian, Elizabeth Gillen. Also at Thursday's meeting was Chris Riedy, Athletic Training Program Coordinator for Coordinated Health. Riedy presented a check for $1,000 to the Pleasant Valley Educational Foundation. Coordinated Health recently signed a contract with the district to continue to provide athletic trainers, team physicians, sports physicals and other sports health related services.
