Kidder fire companies have a busy June schedule

May was a very busy month for many of the local volunteer fire companies with a number of wildfires reported throughout the area. Included in this were all three of the Kidder Township fire companies.

One of the wildfires burned into Carbon County, burning hundreds of acres north of Jack Frost Mountain. Some of the land affected by the fire belongs to Blue Ridge Realty."I know that there were at least 30 fire companies that took part in fighting that fire," said Bruce Beaty, president of Blue Ridge Realty. "I want to thank them all for the job that they did."Local firefighters were assisted by other fire companies and volunteers from outside the area. One group specifically pointed out for their generosity and assistance was Souderton Goodwill.Alex Blew, Albrightsville Volunteer Fire Company Chief, requested that the Kidder Township supervisors consider making a donation to the Souderton Goodwill."Our firehouse made a donation," Blew said. "But these guys came out and fed the firefighters. They really do an outstanding job. I would like to see the township send them something as well.""These guys served over 500 sandwiches in the two days they were there," said Lake Harmony Fire Chief Ralph Lennon. "I said, why don't you put out a cup so the guys can make a donation, they said 'no way.' These are retired firefighters who do this. They brought the sandwiches and other things, two trucks, they're really something."The supervisors agreed to take the request for a donation under consideration.Vice Chairman Larry Polansky pointed out that Lake Harmony Volunteer Fire Company had already sent a donation to the Souderton group as well.On a much more pleasant note, all three of the Kidder Township fire companies are planning community events during June.On June 13 the Lake Harmony Volunteer Fire Company will be holding their "Family Summer Safety Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fire company has planned numerous events for families with an emphasis on summer safety including a demonstration on making your own sunblock, campfire safety and summer pet health tips.See Lake Harmony's website at
