Four sentenced in Carbon DUI cases

Four defendants were sentenced this week in the county court for DUI by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II:

Monica Bessie Russup, 48, of Tamaqua, was sentenced to serve five days to six months in the county prison.She was arrested on Aug. 26, 2014, along Route 248 at the Parryville exit. She was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance, which a blood test at the Palmerton hospital confirmed.Nanovic ordered her to pay a fine of $1,000, have her license suspended for a year, and she must follow all recommendations of a drug and alcohol evaluation. She was given credit for five days already spent in jail on the charge and was paroled.She is currently an inmate in the Schuylkill County prison on drug-related charges.Sarah Elsayed, 24, of Effort, was placed on probation for six months as a first-time offender.She was arrested on March 30, 2014, along Route 209 in Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed 0.24 BAC.She was also ordered to pay a fine of $300 and follow all recommendations of a drug and alcohol evaluation.David Allen Christman, 28, of Palmerton, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail.He was arrested on July 6, 2014, by state police at Lehighton along Route 248 in Franklin Township. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000, have his license suspended for one year, and follow all recommendations of a drug and alcohol evaluation.He will begin his jail term at 8 a.m. May 31.Jerome Franklin Strohl, 40, of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail.He was arrested on Feb. 3 by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000, have his license suspended for a year, and comply with all recommendations of a drug and alcohol evaluation.He will begin the jail term at 6 p.m. May 28.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
