Tamaqua man cited at Coaldale hospital

A Tamaqua man has been charged by Coaldale police after an incident at St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus on March 23.

An officer was on patrol in the hospital's vicinity when he was stopped by a passer-by, who reported seeing a woman being forced into a tan Chevrolet Blazer in the hospital parking lot.She pointed out the SUV, which was being driven by Christopher Blevins, 48, of 302 Orwigsburg St., Tamaqua. The officer made a traffic stop in the hospital's fire lane. While speaking with the vehicle's occupants the officer noticed that Blevins appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Blevins kept saying he had glass stuck in his hand, but the officer only saw open cuts. Blevins was then taken to the emergency room to be checked. He had to be assisted as he kept stumbling on the sidewalk and into the flower beds.Blevins initially agreed to submit to a blood test, but then changed his mind and began yelling and causing a disturbance. He refused to heed the officer's and staff's warnings to calm down and had to be placed in handcuffs. He did finally submit to the blood draw.Test results indicate he had the presence of amphetamine, methamphetamine, alprazolam, benzoylecgonine, hydrocodone and dihydrocodeine/hydrocodol in his system. He was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
