The infant also had older injuries, according to police.Anthony Shetrompf, 21, of 173 W. Ridge St., Apt. 4, faces felony charges of aggravated assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of children, and misdemeanor charges of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person stemming from the April 1 incident.Shetrompf is in Carbon County prison under $5,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. June 3 before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Joshua Tom, here's what happened:Tom and officer Jeffrey Tanner picked up Shetrompf at 7 p.m. April 2 to interview him about the assault on the infant. They read him his Miranda rights, and Shetrompf admitted that he was upset over an argument with his wife. He went to check on the infant, who was in her crib in her bedroom, crying.Shetrompf said he "got mad at the child for crying and aggressively picked up the child."He "heard a pop" after realizing the infant's leg was wrapped in a blanket. This made him more mad. He grabbed the infant around the rib cage, getting a little more aggressive each time, getting more upset at the baby.Shetrompf realized he was hurting the infant because she was crying louder and harder each time he touched her.Shetrompf told police he went to put her back in the crib, and accidentally dropped her from about one foot above the mattress. He stepped back from the crib because he realized what was happening, then more carefully picked up the infant and carried her to his wife. They quickly took the baby to St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus in Coaldale.Shetrompf broke down emotionally during the interview, saying he didn't mean to hurt his daughter. He said he expects to be punished, but doesn't want to lose his family.Police asked him about older injuries to the infant. He said he wasn't sure how those injuries happened.Shetrompf told police he has gotten mad in the past trying to deal with having to raise two children instead of just one.He said life was less complicated with only one child, but that he did not intend to hurt his child.
