Schuylkill burn ban ends Sunday

The temporary burn ban enacted by the Schuylkill County Commissioners will expire at noon Sunday.

The fire chiefs of Schuylkill County, along with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry and Schuylkill County Office of Public Safety, would like to express their thanks to residents for compliance during the period of the burn ban. The instances of uncontrolled fires had been greatly reduced. Residents are reminded to use caution when burning and to ensure they are in compliance with local burning ordinance. Anyone who causes an uncontrolled fire remains liable for the expenses associated with extinguishment and for damage to private or public property.Pennsylvania law allows open burning of only "domestic refuse." Domestic refuse does not include such items as demolition waste, insulation, shingles, treated wood, paint, painted or stained objects or furniture, tires, mattresses, box springs, metal, insulating coating on wire, television sets and appliances, automobiles, automotive parts, batteries, PVC products, waste oil and other petroleum products.
